Cassidy Blomgren has been appointed as the new Municipal Court Judge for Department A in Great Falls, Montana. The decision was made by the City Commission during its meeting on January 20, 2026, following interviews with leading candidates. The position became available after Judge Steven Bolstad retired on January 1, 2026.

Blomgren has served as a City Prosecutor for Great Falls since December 2023. She is originally from Missoula and holds an undergraduate degree from Oregon State University and a law degree from the University of Montana.

Her legal career began in 2009 as a public defender with the Office of the State Public Defender, where she represented clients in Great Falls Municipal Court. In 2013, she worked as a law clerk for Municipal Court Judge Nancy Luth and later became a prosecutor for Great Falls until 2021. Afterward, she joined Alluvion Health to work with crisis diversion programs before returning to her role as prosecutor in late 2023.

With the recent addition of a second municipal courtroom in October 2025, Blomgren indicated that collaborating with Municipal Court Judge Mark Dunn (Department B) will be one of her main priorities to ensure both courtrooms function effectively. She also plans to focus on innovative solutions to mental health and substance abuse challenges within the community.

Blomgren stated, “I am truly humbled by the support and encouragement I have received throughout this process. Judge Bolstad made a lasting impact on the Court and this community, and I am grateful for the opportunity to carry that work forward as I begin this next chapter.”

She will be sworn in on January 30, 2026, and is set to serve until November 2027 when voters will elect a judge for Department A during the municipal general election.
