Cascade County officials announced on June 1 that Evans Riceville Road, located south of Belt off Highway 89, has been restricted to one-lane traffic following a roadway slide caused by recent heavy rainfall.
Approximately four miles west of Highway 89, a portion of the northbound lane failed and slid down the mountainside. Cascade County Public Works crews and local engineers responded to the site and have implemented single-lane travel through the affected area. Officials said crews will continue monitoring conditions in the coming days to assess whether additional movement toward the roadway centerline occurs. A full road closure may be necessary if conditions worsen, but at this time no complete closure is anticipated.
The public is being asked to avoid hauling heavy loads through this section of Evans Riceville Road to help preserve the remaining travel lane. Motorists are advised to use caution, watch for oncoming traffic, remain alert for shifting soil or debris, and follow all posted traffic control devices. Large trucks, oversized vehicles, and heavy loads are prohibited from using this stretch of road. Travelers are encouraged to access Evans Riceville Road from the Stockett side as an alternate route if needed.
“Cascade County appreciates the public’s patience, cooperation, and understanding as crews work to maintain safe travel conditions and complete the necessary repairs,” officials said in a statement.
