GREAT FALLS, Montana – At approximately 1:52 AM on Tuesday May 23rd, 2023 Great Falls Police Officers were dispatched to a noise disturbance in the 800 block of 17th St. South, Chowen Springs Park. When officers arrived on scene they found several people attempting to leave the Southeast corner of Chowen Springs Park.

In the Southeast corner of Chowen Springs Park, GFPD Patrol Officers discovered a deceased female. All people found on scene have been identified by the Great Falls Police Department. The female descendant is a 51 year old Great Falls resident. Evidence and statements support some type of physical disturbance having taken place.

At this point in time arrests have not been made. However, GFPD Detectives are still actively investigating the Homicide. Detectives are exploring every possibility in their investigation prior to any potential charges. Further investigation and evidence evaluation is on-going. Detailed information will not be released at this time as doing so could jeopardize a complete and thorough investigation.

The GFPD is asking anyone that may have been a witness to or have any information to any part of a disturbance in Chowen Springs Park in the early morning hours of May 23rd, to please contact Detective Sergeant Derek Mahlum at 406-781-8926.

This event does not appear to have been a “random” attack. The GFPD does not believe there is any elevated risk to the public. We remind the public to report any suspicious persons or activities to our Dispatch Center by either calling 911 in emergencies or our Non-Emergent line at 406-455-8599.
