Great Falls residents are encouraged to recycle their live Christmas trees from December 26, 2025, through January 9, 2026. The recycling locations are Meadowlark Park at Fox Farm and Park Garden Road, and the American Little League parking lot at 1100 38th St N.
Residents are reminded to remove all lights, decorations, and tree stands before bringing their trees for recycling. Flocked trees will not be accepted at these sites. Only live Christmas trees should be deposited in the provided containers. Commercial trees are also not accepted.
According to the City of Great Falls Solid Waste Division Manager Ross Bartell, “Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, meaning they can be reused or recycled for various purposes.” Recycled trees will either be composted or used to improve fish habitats.
The project is a collaboration between the City of Great Falls, MT Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and Walleyes Unlimited Great Falls Chapter. The City of Great Falls functions as a municipal government entity serving its residents according to its official website. The city is centered along the Missouri River in Montana and was established in 1884 by Paris Gibson based on its location near waterfalls as noted on its history page.
