The Great Falls Park and Recreation Department has announced two community initiatives for December. On Tuesday, December 2, the Roots Revival group within the Gibson Park Committee is encouraging donations to help replant the last seven trees needed for the Gibson Park canopy. The previous trees were removed last year due to age and storm damage. According to the committee, they have worked with both the City Forester and City Parks Manager to select tree species that provide strong canopy coverage, display fall colors, tolerate drought, and can handle Great Falls’ temperature swings.

Planting a new tree in Gibson Park costs between $495 and $770, which covers all planting expenses. Details about available tree species, prices, and donation instructions can be found on the Great Falls Park and Recreation website. Jessica Compton, Interim Park & Recreation Director, is available at (406)-771-1265 for additional questions.

In addition to Giving Tuesday efforts, registration has opened for Winter Camp at the Great Falls Aquatic and Recreation Center. The camp is designed for children in grades K-5 and costs $40 per day. It will run from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on December 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th, and January 2nd. Activities include swimming, crafts, games, and other recreational options. Participants are asked to bring swimsuits, towels, snacks, lunch, and water bottles each day. Registration can be completed online or by calling 406-727-6099.
