The Great Falls Park and Recreation Department has announced a series of upcoming events for community members in September and October.

On Wednesday, September 10, the Gibson Flower Garden will host the Pollinator’s Blitz Event from 4 to 5 p.m. Jake D., a horticulturist from the Forestry Division, will lead the session on best practices for pollinator gardens. Attendees can expect to receive plant cuttings and seeds. Participants are encouraged to bring questions as well as a notepad and pen.

Nerf Wars is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scheels Aim High Aquatic and Recreation Facility. The event is open to individuals aged eight or older with a participation fee of $15 per person, which includes pizza. Pre-registration is required, with a minimum of 25 participants needed for the event to proceed. Limited eyewear and blasters will be available for borrowing.

The Scheel’s Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Facility Youth Triathlon will take place on Saturday, October 4. Children ages two through thirteen can participate in swimming, running, and biking challenges at a cost of $15 per challenge entered. Events include varying levels of difficulty: The Challenge (25-yard swim, one bike loop, one run loop), Super Challenge (50-yard swim, three loops each), and Ultimate Challenge (100-yard swim, six laps each). All activities will take place in or around Lions Park.

To help manage costs, previous years’ Ice Breaker medals and t-shirts will be distributed to all participants; these can be decorated or updated by those taking part. Parents are welcome to accompany their children but do not need to register themselves. No official times will be kept during the triathlon; instead, all participants are eligible for prize drawings following completion of their events. Check-in begins at 7 a.m., with the first heat starting at 8 a.m., followed by refreshments at the Lions Park Pavilion.

Additional details about these programs can be found on the Park and Recreation website or via their Facebook page.
