Montana Mental Health Nursing Home received an overall rating of 3 out of 5 from the CMS, trailing the state’s average nursing home rating of 3.1.

Valle Vista Rehabilitation and Nursing, LLC ranked as Fergus County’s second largest nursing facility for the period, providing 101 available beds.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate a continued rise in the nation’s older adult population as numbers for younger groups decrease. From 2020 through 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older population has seen an increase from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis estimates nearly half of Americans in this group, about 28 million, may require long-term services and support; it also predicts more than a third could eventually need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
