In the first quarter of 2026, ownership of Northern Montana Care Center was held by Northern Montana Care Center, Inc. and Northern Montana Health Care, Inc., the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility operates as a non-profit organization.

For the same timeframe, the nursing home’s overall CMS score was 5, outpacing the Montana state nursing home average of 3.1. CMS assigns these ratings after reviewing health inspection results, staffing metrics and quality-of-care indicators for residents.

Data from the quarter shows Northern Montana Care Center served an average of 74.4 residents daily, offering 135 beds. The facility is not classified as hospital-based.

No fines or penalties were recorded for Northern Montana Care Center during the first quarter of 2026.

Hill County, Montana, contained one non-profit nursing home as of that period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the number of older adults nationwide continues to rise, while younger populations decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the U.S. population age 65 and older grew by 13%, while individuals under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has seen marked growth over the past 100 years, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis found that close to half of those aged 65 and older, roughly 28 million people, will need long-term care services and support, with projections suggesting more than a third will eventually require nursing home services.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
