Cascade County – A new case of lung infection due to vaping has been reported in Cascade County.
A person in his or her 20s was diagnosed with the medical condition, as reported by the Montana Department of Health and Human Services. The patient had a history of vaping, officials said, and had vaped marijuana.
The patient’s condition is similar to 2,700 other cases reported in the United States. In those cases, patients vaped products either containing nicotine, THC (the hallucinogenic ingredient found in marijuana) or both.
Laura Williamson, the state epidemiologist for Montana, said, “We do know that this individual reported vaping marijuana, which is consistent with what we are finding nationally.”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls the problem EVALI, which stands for e-cigarette/vaping product-use associated lung injury.
Seven other cases of EVALI have been reported in Montana, and 60 people have died across the country from vaping-related lung injury since September 2019.
