Senator Steve Daines, alongside a bipartisan group of senators, has called for an in-depth investigation into the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) expanding use of facial recognition technology in airports nationwide. The concern is centered on the need for oversight regarding both authority and privacy issues related to this technology.

The senators expressed their concerns in a letter stating, "We urge you to conduct thorough oversight of the Transportation Security Administration’s ('TSA') use of facial recognition technology for passenger verification from both an authorities and privacy perspective." They emphasized that this technology is set to be implemented at numerous major and mid-size airports without an independent evaluation of its precision or adequate safeguards to protect passenger privacy.

Further details can be accessed through the full text of the letter.
