The University of Providence Board of Trustees has named Dr. Caroline Goulet as the next President of the institution, removing her interim title after several months in the role. The decision comes after a period during which Dr. Goulet led the university through various strategic, academic, and financial initiatives.
“Dr. Goulet has demonstrated exceptional vision, resilience, and commitment to the mission of the University of Providence,” said Bethann McGregor, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “As the university faces challenges in the coming months and year, turning to someone with Dr. Goulet’s depth of higher education leadership experience is not only a blessing but an extraordinary strength for this institution. Her steady hand, clear judgment, and unwavering dedication have earned the full confidence of the Board, our sponsors, and our community. We are pleased to affirm that she is the right person to lead UP into its next chapter.”
Dr. Goulet began working at University of Providence in 2024 and has held several roles including Interim President and Provost | Vice President for Academic Affairs. In these positions, she worked on improving academic quality, aligning programs with workforce needs, and developing strategies for institutional sustainability.
“I am deeply honored by the trust the Board has placed in me,” said Dr. Goulet. “The University of Providence has a powerful mission rooted in the legacy of the Sisters of Providence and the healing ministry of the Providence Health System. I look forward to working side by side with our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners as we continue to transform lives through education, service, and faith-filled leadership.”
While serving as interim president since July 2025, Dr. Goulet directed efforts such as creating a multi-year financial stabilization plan; strengthening partnerships with Providence Health System and local organizations; refining academic programs; focusing on student success; and launching Onward Providence—a framework designed to guide UP through financial exigency toward long-term growth.
Dr. Goulet is trained as a physical therapist and is a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. She brings experience from health professions education and academic administration in both U.S. and international contexts.
“The Board is grateful for Dr. Goulet’s willingness to answer this call to service,” added McGregor. “We are confident that, under her leadership, the University of Providence will continue to live out its Catholic, Providence-inspired mission for generations to come.”
Her appointment becomes effective December 15, 2025.
