As Montana approaches the June 2 primary election, U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte has raised the most money in his campaign thus far out of all governor candidates.
The position of governor is open for election this year, as Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock has reached the end of his allowed terms in office, according to the Independent Record.
Gianforte has raised over $3.57 million, with $1.5 million of the money being a loan to himself, according to the Independent Record. He will be facing state Sen. Al Olszewski and state Attorney General Tim Fox in the GOP primary in June. Olszewski has raised around $350,000 and Fox has raised about $760,000, according to the report.
His Democratic running mates, Whitney Williams and Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney, have also raised less money than Gianforte, but have raised more than the other Republican candidates.
Williams has raised about $1.01 million and Cooney has raised around $895,000, according to the Independent Record.
