Meet the experts on the frontlines of ground-breaking initiatives to foster and promote equine and agricultural industries, way of life and the unique relationship between horse and human.

OF HORSE, HUMAN & NATURE brings a balanced and insightful look at, and appreciation for all things horse and the powerful and life-changing impact of the horse-human relationship.

The Montana Center for Horsemanship is the only education center in the nation devoted exclusively to Natural Horsemanship.  With the University of Montana Western, we are pleased to present this public conference, featuring Dr. Temple Grandin, one of the foremost experts on livestock handling and management and animal behavior. A professor of animal science at Colorado State, consultant on animal behavior and a renowned autism spokesperson, Dr. Grandin was one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum, to document the insights gained from her personal experience of autism.  She is also a strong proponent of equine therapy and equine assisted learning.

Other featured speakers and presenters include:  Dr. Barbara Baker, President & CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo, PPG Aquarium & International Conservation Center. NBHA Reserve World Champion and veterinarian, the Pittsburgh Zoo is the only zoo in the world incorporating natural horsemanship into wildlife management training with remarkable results.

The Conference will feature natural horsemanship and horse & rider demonstrations.  We welcome Gallop NYC with a special focus on the impact of therapeutic riding and featuring two young women, one a Paralympian and the other the captain of her equestrian team and nationally recognized for her riding achievements, despite the hurdles she has faced with cerebral palsy.  The Conference will focus on veterans and natural horsemanship, and the many lives forever changed by horses and natural horsemanship.  Outfitting and packing, and a special presentation with mules and horses from the USFS Equine Field Program along with some of the best packers and outfitters in the nation, will be on on hand to share their experiences from training military leaders for Afghanistan to exploring the backcountry as only they can --- along with some of the best horse films from around the world; Jeanne Rosenberg, a competitive Reiner and screenwriter of the original Black Stallion film will share behind the scenes on the film's 40th anniversary and Kate and John Tweedy, whose family owned the most famous racehorse of all time, Secretariat, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of this unforgettble horse.  John Tweedy is also a documentary filmmaker and will screen "Penny & Red" along with some of this year's award winning equine films.    Field tours of the innovative cattle ranch, La Cense and a demonstration of yoga on horseback by one of the nation's leading young riders going for her gold medal will also round out the conference.  Ashley Mancuso is an FEI Rider through the Grand Prix, teaches yoga on horseback, is a trainer and a filmmaker. And it was her films about Cobra, the three-strikes wild mustang who went on to become a national dressage champion horse of the year, that had audiences in tears and cheering for this horse and his talented trainer, Marsha Hartford-Sapp.  From wild horses to wildlife, innovation in ranching, research and horse-human well-being, dynamic roundtables and inspiring films and social events, this event is a partnership of the Montana Center for Horsemanship, the University of Montana Western, the William Kriegel Foundation-Horse, Human and nature and EQUUS INTERNATIONAL Film Festival.
