U.S. Senator Steve Daines criticized the Biden EPA's mandate to push heavy duty truckers towards electric vehicles. Daines expressed strong opposition to the mandate, stating, "The Biden administration apparently wasn’t satisfied that its climate-driven tailpipe emissions mandate a little more than a week ago wouldn’t hurt working families in Montana and across the country enough, now it wants us to believe that building electric heavy duty trucks is the answer to fulfilling its green dream." Daines further added, “Make no mistake: this is climate fantasy at its finest. Truck makers can’t afford it, it will increase costs for Montanans as these heavy duty vehicles become less reliable and the climate benefits are dubious at best."

Daines also highlighted the practical challenges of electric heavy duty trucks, mentioning, "Besides, find me a trucker who wants to do a long haul drive from Glendive to Butte in an electric semi in January and I’ll find you some oceanfront property in Arizona."
