U.S. Senator Steve Daines today criticized Vice President Kamala Harris during the weekly Republican Senate Leadership press conference, focusing on her role as Joe Biden’s "Border Czar."

“If you like San Francisco politics, you’ve got to love Kamala Harris,” Daines stated. He referenced Harris's appointment by President Biden on March 24, 2021: “I can think of nobody who is better qualified to do this. She is leading the effort. She knows what she is doing.”

Daines argued that Harris had not effectively managed border issues, claiming, “Well, clearly, she did not know what she was doing. And enabled by Senate Democrats, we’ve seen the border go from bad to worse.” He cited statistics of illegal border crossings and incidents involving undocumented immigrants.

He also highlighted past statements by Harris regarding undocumented immigrants and criminality: “Kamala Harris has said numerous times... ‘An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.’” Daines claimed efforts were being made to remove records of her previous positions.

Daines recalled an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt where Harris appeared flustered when asked about visiting the border. He suggested that instead of traveling to Europe or Houston, Harris should visit McAllen, TX.

In closing remarks, Daines asserted that the American public would hold the current administration accountable for perceived failures at the southern border in upcoming elections.
