U.S. Senator Steve Daines appeared on Fox Business’ "Mornings with Maria" to discuss tax permanency and spending restraint, while also expressing support for former President Trump's energy policies. During the interview, Daines highlighted his efforts to make Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent.

Daines stated, "I had a great meeting Monday in the Oval Office with President Trump. In fact, Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick joined by speaker phone and we talked with the President about the importance of making his tax cuts from 2017 permanent." He warned that failure to act could result in a significant tax increase. Daines emphasized the need for cooperation between the House and Senate to prevent this potential outcome.

The senator also praised Trump's actions regarding Venezuela, contrasting them with those of President Biden. "I applaud what President Trump did and what Secretary Rubio is doing, as it relates to Venezuela," he said. Daines criticized Biden's policies on energy exports and sanctions, claiming they were detrimental to American interests.

Additionally, Daines commended the swift pace of cabinet confirmations under Senate Majority Leader John Thune. "John Thune, kudos to John. He’s a great friend of mine," Daines remarked, highlighting their shared goal of maintaining a Republican majority in the Senate.

On international matters, Daines discussed a minerals deal involving Ukraine that he had pitched alongside Senator Lindsey Graham. He explained its significance in reducing dependency on China for critical minerals: "This is a way for us to reduce dependencies on China and make sure we’ve got other supply chains."

Looking ahead to Trump's upcoming State of the Union address, Daines predicted an enthusiastic response from Republicans. "Relating to President Trump’s speech, get ready for a raucous night," he said, anticipating strong partisan reactions during the event.
