WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Steve Daines addressed the severe backlog in the immigration court system caused by President Biden and Senate Democrats' open border policies. Daines emphasized the concerning issue during the weekly Republican Senate Leadership press conference.
Daines highlighted the predicament faced by illegal immigrants who have entered the country through the southern border. "Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants are receiving a 'notice to appear' in immigration court as they're being released into our country," he stated. He further revealed that some court dates were scheduled as far out as 2033. This raises doubts about whether these individuals will actually show up for their hearing fourteen years from now.
Moreover, Daines stressed that the immigration court system takes approximately four years to move a case through the system before reaching a final decision. This means that some migrants could be residing in the United States for a staggering 14 years before their asylum claim is even determined to be legitimate or not. Daines expressed concern about the impact this massive flow of illegal immigrants has on legitimate asylum seekers.
"This is an unprecedented border crisis," Daines asserted. The overwhelming influx of migrants has put tremendous strain on border patrol agents and has highlighted the broken state of the immigration system. He emphasized that the backlog in the immigration court system is merely a symptom of the larger problem at hand.
Daines laid the blame at the feet of President Biden and Senate Democrats, stating that their open border policies have created an unprecedented flow of illegal immigrants from around the world. He further highlighted the danger by mentioning a daily flight from Istanbul to Bogotá, where individuals on the terror watch list have been apprehended with intentions of reaching the United States.
In light of these concerns, Daines called for immediate action to secure the southern border, stem the flow of migrants, and reform the asylum standards. It is imperative to address the root causes of this crisis to protect the integrity of the immigration system and prioritize the safety and wellbeing of both American citizens and legitimate asylum seekers.
As Daines concluded his remarks, he made it clear that the current situation demands urgent attention. The impact of open border policies and the backlog in the immigration court system cannot be ignored. It is essential to take decisive action to address these challenges and restore order to the southern border.
