U.S. Senator Steve Daines has called for a full impeachment trial of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. In an interview on Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto, Daines emphasized the need for accountability and transparency regarding Mayorkas' actions at the southern border.
Daines expressed his concern over the impeachment process, stating, "I’m not surprised, first of all, that Chuck Schumer was hoping those articles would come to the Senate this week on a Thursday afternoon so they could get buried for the weekend. The Democrats don’t want to talk about this."
Regarding the delay in delivering the articles of impeachment, Daines remarked, "Whether it gets shipped over to us on Wednesday for the beginning of the impeachment on Thursday, literally we will be sat down in the Senate chamber, we will be sworn in, we will sign a book as jurors."
The Senator underscored the importance of holding Mayorkas accountable, stating, "Let’s be clear, Neil. He has been impeached. The House has impeached Mayorkas. Now the question is the trial. We sit as jurors."
Daines also highlighted the national security implications of the situation at the border, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the Biden Administration's policies. He stated, "This is a national security debate, as we’re looking at the terror threat right now in this country because of Joe Biden’s chaos and open border policies."
As the debate over Mayorkas' impeachment unfolds, Daines stressed the significance of the Senate's role in addressing the concerns raised by the American people. He concluded by stating, "There’s a chance for us to put this out in full display with a trial in the United States Senate to show the evidence of what’s been going on with the Biden Administration of why we’re at this point in our history."
