U.S. Senator Steve Daines has joined his colleagues in pushing for transparency and accountability in the Senate proceedings regarding the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In a letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Senators emphasized the importance of upholding the constitutional duty to hold a trial for Secretary Mayorkas, who has been impeached by the House of Representatives.

"The House of Representatives has considered this evidence and impeached Secretary Mayorkas. Our constitutional duty requires the Senate to hold a trial. In every previous congressional impeachment of the past 227 years, Congress has been faithful to the process set out by the framers… Never before has the Senate abandoned this duty, even when certain members believed the basis for impeachment was tenuous at best," wrote the Senators.

Senator Daines specifically called on Schumer to ensure a full impeachment trial takes place, shedding light on Secretary Mayorkas' perceived shortcomings, particularly in handling issues at the southern border. The Senator's dedication to transparency and accountability in this matter is evident as he urges for a comprehensive examination of the allegations against Secretary Mayorkas.
