U.S. Senator Steve Daines has introduced a resolution in support of the Geneva Consensus Declaration (GCD), a document that emphasizes women's health, preserving human life, and strengthening families. The GCD, initially endorsed by over 30 countries including the United States, saw the U.S. withdraw its support in 2021 under the Biden administration.
"The Geneva Consensus Declaration affirms basic principles that all life is sacred and there is no international right to abortion," said Daines. "It also declares that families must be protected and defends the sovereign right of nations to enact laws that advance these truths. Despite the Biden administration’s opposition, the Geneva Consensus Declaration coalition continues to grow, which thankfully shows other countries know that life, the family and women’s health must be protected."
Joining Senator Daines in presenting this resolution were Senators James Lankford from Oklahoma, Jim Banks from Indiana, Cindy Hyde-Smith from Mississippi, Tim Sheehy from Montana, and Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee.
The Geneva Consensus Declaration was established in 2020 through negotiations between Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Uganda, and the United States. It represents an international coalition aimed at promoting women's health and reinforcing family structures while upholding national sovereignty. The GCD prioritizes four key areas: enhancing women's health, safeguarding human life, fortifying family units as societal foundations, and protecting national sovereignty on a global scale.
By aligning around these priorities, the GCD seeks to foster collaboration among nations for effective solutions. This initiative aims to strengthen collective national voices against external pressures on issues central to their identity.
