U.S. Senator Steve Daines has introduced the "Unborn Child Support Act," a legislative proposal aimed at recognizing the humanity of unborn children and providing expectant mothers with an option to receive child support payments during pregnancy.
"Caring for a child starts long before birth, and Montana moms need access to critical child support while they’re pregnant," said Daines. "By supporting expecting mothers, we recognize the humanity of an unborn baby and ensure Montanans have the resources they need to choose life."
The bill proposes that pregnant women can opt-in to receive prenatal payments through the court system if they choose. Judges would be required to consult with mothers on payment plans and allow them discretion regarding retroactive child support payments. Additionally, paternity tests would be conducted only at the mother's discretion and not if it poses a risk to the child.
Several organizations endorse the "Unborn Child Support Act." These include Concerned Women for America, March for Life Action, Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, Students for Life Action, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), CatholicVote, Family Policy Alliance, Family Research Council, Americans United for Life, National Right to Life, Christians Engaged and National Association of Pro-Life Nurses.
