U.S. Senator Steve Daines has applauded the passage of the “Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act” by the House of Representatives. The bill aims to redesignate Ansarallah, also known as the Houthis, as a foreign terrorist organization due to their destabilizing actions in the region and the security threat they pose to the United States.
In a statement, Senator Daines emphasized the importance of redesignating the Houthis, stating, “The Houthis are a terror organization funded by Iran, and Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on Israel this weekend means it’s even more important that we redesignate them as such. Doing so will send a strong message to our allies and the terrorists alike that the United States will not tolerate the malign activity of the Houthis or Iran.”
Daines also expressed his support for the House's action, noting that it brings the country one step closer to making the redesignation a reality. He urged Senate Democrats, including Leader Schumer, to follow the House's lead in this matter.
It is worth mentioning that Senator Daines introduced the Standing Against Houthi Aggression Act in November 2023, laying the groundwork for the recent legislative efforts to address the threat posed by the Houthis.
