U.S. Senator Steve Daines visited George Washington University today, where he met with Jewish students and voiced his support for them amidst the establishment of an encampment by protestors expressing anti-Israel sentiments. The senator also condemned the surge of hate crimes across the nation.
Daines also held a meeting with Rabbi Yudi Steiner of Rohr Chabad Center at George Washington University. During his visit, he addressed the concerns raised by Jewish students about their safety and sense of belonging on campus.
"Antisemitism has no place in America, and I stand unequivocally with Jewish people from across our country and around the world. Jewish students at George Washington University told me they are afraid for their lives, scared and don’t feel wanted. This angers me to my core," said Daines.
He also criticized President Joe Biden's response to the situation, suggesting that more decisive action should be taken to address the issue at hand.
"If Joe Biden really cared more about Jewish students than delivering muddled messages to his political base, he would call Mayor Bowser immediately and tell her to shut down the encampment at GW as the university president requested," Daines stated.
He further noted that his visit to the encampment underscored his belief that a change in direction is needed for the country.
"In Biden’s America, radical far Left protestors have felt emboldened to unleash chaos and spew hatred. My visit to the GW encampment reinforced why I feel our country must change course," he added.
