U.S. Senator Steve Daines delivered remarks at the weekly Republican Senate Leadership press conference today, urging President Biden and Senate Democrats to prioritize American security over appeasing pro-Hamas protestors.
Daines stated, “President Biden, stop letting the American Left dictate your foreign policy. Campus protests and threats and intimidation of Jewish students has now turned into graduation walkouts. This weekend we saw walkouts, we saw demonstrations at Duke, Virginia Commonwealth, the University of North Carolina, among others, all in protest of our support of Israel."
The senator criticized President Biden's approach to foreign policy, particularly his handling of relations with Israel and Iran. "And while Israel is worried about its security, Biden is worried about his election. So, what does President Biden do? He imposes a de facto arms embargo, not on Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror, but on Israel," he said.
He questioned why President Biden would give sanctions relief to Iran while clamping down on ally Israel. Daines argued that this was due to fear from his base and pro-Hamas protestors on campuses and in places like Dearborn, Michigan. "These folks might as well be the shadow National Security Council—they are running American foreign policy in the White House," he claimed.
Daines further expressed concern over pro-Hamas protestors influencing foreign policy decisions. "Mr. President, letting pro-Hamas protestors dictate your foreign policy is very dangerous," he warned.
The senator also pointed out that it wasn't just President Biden who was at fault but Senate Democrats as well. He mentioned Senator Cotton's bill that would force the Biden administration to send weapons to Israel and yet no Democrat Senator supports it.
In conclusion, Daines urged for a shift in focus: “It’s time for moral clarity: It’s time for Joe Biden and Senate Democrats to stop worrying about their reelection and start worrying about America’s security.”
