The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a public notice regarding a request from the City of Great Falls to fund the stabilization of the Black Eagle Reservoir shoreline.
“It is anticipated that long-term impacts to the floodplain and wetlands will be beneficial, with potential minor, short-term impacts during the construction process,” the City of Great Falls website stated. “FEMA has also evaluated potential effects of the proposed project on endangered species, and historic properties, and determined there will be no significant impacts to these resources.”
Funding for the shoreline stabilization project will come from FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program, according to the city’s website.
“The purpose of FEMA’s mitigation program is to implement cost-effective mitigation projects that will reduce the overall risk to populations and property,” the website states.
The city will acquire a floodplain development permit and follow all applicable laws, ordinances and regulation, as reported by the city’s website.
