U.S. Senator Steve Daines delivered remarks at the weekly Republican Senate Leadership press conference, focusing on Vice President Kamala Harris' policies.
"There’s a good reason why we haven’t seen Kamala Harris out campaigning in some of these key battleground states like Montana and Ohio, because Kamala Harris is the most liberal candidate running for president the Democrat Party has ever nominated," said Daines.
Daines referenced a statement by Philip Bump from The Washington Post on August 13, 2020: "'In 2017, Harris was the eighth-most-liberal U.S. senator. In 2018, fourth. As she prepared a 2020 presidential run, she became the most liberal — joining Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), all of whom also ran.'"
He further stated that Harris is "the least electable of 10 possible Democrat nominees," citing The New York Times as his source.
"She is unelectable because her positions are radical," he continued. Daines listed several policy stances attributed to Harris: calling the border wall a waste of taxpayer money, advocating for a ban on fracking, supporting defunding the police, cosponsoring legislation to mandate electric vehicles, and changing her positions.
"As the New York Times poll from this weekend shows, that shine is wearing off," he added.
Daines quoted Bernie Sanders regarding Harris' changing positions: "When asked about Kamala Harris’ flip flops, Bernie Sanders said Kamala Harris is ‘doing what she thinks is right to win the election.’" He also noted Sanders' view: "I do consider her a progressive."
"In other words, Kamala Harris is still the radical out-of-touch California liberal she has always been," concluded Daines.
