U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy, along with Congressmen Troy Downing and Ryan Zinke, have expressed their approval of President Trump’s Department of the Interior (DOI) for endorsing Montana mining jobs. This follows the DOI's announcement of the federal mining plan approval for the Spring Creek Coal Mine in Decker, MT. The decision marks a shift from what was described as prolonged delays during Biden’s administration.

Senator Daines emphasized the significance of the Spring Creek Coal Mine to Big Horn County's economy and criticized previous environmental policies under Biden. He stated, "The Spring Creek Coal Mine is a critical economic driver in Big Horn County and provides energy for the entire country."

Senator Sheehy remarked on the broader impact of this decision on Montana's economy and job market. He said, "This America First, commonsense decision is huge news for Montana that will protect Montana jobs – including good-paying union and tribal jobs – strengthen our economy."

Congressman Downing highlighted the importance of this move for American energy production. He noted, “Today’s decision to approve the federal mining plan modification for Spring Creek Mine illustrates this Administration’s unwavering commitment to unleashing American energy."

Congressman Zinke echoed similar sentiments, critiquing past administrative delays and praising the current decision as beneficial for local workers and families. He commented, “Approval for Spring Creek Mine is long overdue... Today’s decision by President Trump and Secretary Burgum is a win for Montana workers and families."

Senator Daines has been actively advocating for support of the Spring Creek Coal Mine. In October 2024, he and Congressman Zinke addressed a letter to Biden’s DOI urging approval of the mine plan.
